EDO KIMEKOMI DOLLS – MATSUZAKI NINGYO

Kimekomi is a technique in which grooves are carved on a doll made from a mold and cloth such as colorful silk fabric is stuck together.

Kimekomi dolls developed in Kyoto were introduced to Edo and developed into “Edo kimekomi dolls” in the 18 century.

 

 

 

Matsuzaki Ningyo was founded in 1920. Matsuzaki Ningyo has succeeded the techniques of doll making and kimekomi for about 100 years. They have confidence and pride in being “a maker of dolls” of three generations in 100 years. From Japanese hina dolls, Samurai, Ninja, and Animals, Matsuzaki Nigyo’s innovative designs and the beauty of kimekomi attract viewers.
